Bill opposed by Greens who warn ‘draconian’ laws would have ‘chilling effect’ on political debate and protest

New hate speech laws to combat antisemitism have cleared the lower house with the Liberals’ support after Sussan Ley agreed to a deal with Labor that she claimed “fixes” the contentious bill.

The revised legislation is now on track to pass the Senate around 10pm on Tuesday night.
