The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has unveiled comprehensive reforms to Ghana’s mining laws, targeting increased community benefits and environmental responsibility.

Key changes include:

  • Introduction of a medium-scale mining license category to bridge the gap between small-scale and large-scale operations.

  • Mandatory community development agreements for all mining companies.

  • A requirement for revenue-sharing with local communities, aimed at ensuring residents benefit directly from natural resource exploitation.

  • Stricter timelines for license renewals and tougher penalties for environmental violations.

Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor said the reforms will help curb illegal mining, improve land reclamation, and attract responsible foreign investment while empowering local economies.
